Growth through Health Research

The NIHR's aim is to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.

A new publication, The NIHR as an engine for growth, illustrates the ways the NIHR is contributing to economic growth. These include creating an internationally competitive research environment, enabling collaborations and partnerships with the life sciences industry, developing a highly-skilled research workforce, and generating research evidence which helps keep the population healthy and able to work and which supports the NHS in making better and more cost-effective use of resources. The publication was produced to accompany an event, held on 5 March and hosted by George Freeman MP, Minister for Life Sciences, and the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Dame Sally C Davies, which brought together leaders from across the life sciences industry, charities, academia and the NHS.
